Hot Chocolate Mug and Cookies Free Crochet Pattern

What's better than waiting for the Holidays while sipping a delicious hot chocolate with marshmallow, and indulging in freshly baked cookies? I know, it sounds so inviting right?


Well, let's make the wait even more fun by crocheting this lovely combo for the kids to play with!

Here's the FREE pattern!


YARN: Light (3) in Red, White, Brown and Beige


MATERIALS: 2.5 mm Hook; Poly Filling; Yarn Needle


DIMENSION: Mug 4” x 3” x 3”; Cookie 2” in diameter


ABBREVIATIONS: magic ring (mr), chain (ch), stitch (st), slip stitch (sl st), single crochet (sc), half double crochet (hdc), double crochet (dc), front loop only (FLO), back loop only (BLO), fasten off (F/O)


SKILL LEVEL: Beginner

Mug (red and white yarn)


Rnd 1: starting off with red yarn, 8 sc in a mr (8)

Rnd 2: sc inc around (16)

Rnd 3: (1 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (24)

Rnd 4: (2 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (32)

Rnd 5: (3 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (40)

Rnd 6: (4 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (48)

Rnd 7: (5 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (56)

Rnd 8: (6 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (64)

Rnds 9 - 28: sc even (64); F/O red yarn leaving a long strand of yarn

Turn (face the inside of the mug while crocheting)

Rnd 29: switching to white yarn, sc even (64)

Rnd 30: working in BLO, sc even (64); F/O, cut the yarn and wave in end.



Mug Handle (red yarn)


Rnd 1: 8 sc in a mr (8)

Rnds 2 - 23: sc even (8); stuff the handle lightly while crocheting

Row 24: flatten the handle and crochet through both layers, 4 sc (4); turn and ch 1

Row 25: 1 sc, 1 sc dec, 1 sc (3); turn and ch 1

Rows 26 - 27: sc even (3); F/O and leave a long strand of yarn to sew the handle to the side of the mug.

Secure the round side of the handle between rnds # 24-27.

Bend up the flat part of the handle and sew it to the mug between rnds # 13-19.




Marshmallows (white yarn)


Make one:

Rnd 1: 8 sc in a mr (8)

Rnd 2: sc inc around (16)

Rnd 3: working in BLO, sc even (16)

Rnd 4: working in both loops now, sc even (16); F/O and leave a long strand of yarn.


Make one:

Rnd 1: 8 sc in a mr (8)

Rnd 2: sc inc around (16)

Rnd 3: working in BLO, sc even (16); F/O and leave a long strand of yarn.


Make one:

Rnd 1: 8 sc in a mr (8)

Rnd 2: sc inc around (16)

Rnd 3: working in BLO, 9 hdc, 7 sl st (16); F/O and leave a long strand of yarn.



Chocolate (brown yarn)


Rnd 1: 8 sc in a mr (8)

Rnd 2: sc inc around (16)

Rnd 3: (1 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (24)

Rnd 4: (2 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (32)

Rnd 5: (3 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (40)

Rnd 6: sc even (40)

Rnd 7: (4 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (48)

Rnd 8: (5 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (56)

Rnd 9: (6 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (64)

Rnd 10: (7 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (72)

Rnd 11: working in BLO, sc even (72)

Rnd 12: working in both loops now, sc even (72)

Rnd 13: (7 sc, 1 sc dec) rep around (64)


Sew the Marshmallow on the top of the chocolate, stuffing them lightly while sewing them on.


Rnd 14 - 25: sc even (64)

Rnd 26: working in BLO, (6 sc, 1 sc dec) rep around (56); start stuffing

Rnd 27: working in both loops now, (5 sc, 1 sc dec) rep around (48)

Rnd 28: (4 sc, 1 sc dec) rep around (40)

Rnd 29: (3 sc, 1 sc dec) rep around (32)

Rnd 30: (2 sc, 1 sc dec) rep around (24)

Rnd 31: (1 sc, 1 sc dec) rep around (16); finish stuffing

Rnd 32: sc dec around (8); F/O, cut the yarn and wave in end.


Embroider the STAR on the side of the mug with white yarn between rnds # 13-26.



Cookies (beige and brown yarn; make two)


Rnd 1: working with beige yarn, sc in a mr (8)

Rnd 2: sc inc around (16)

Rnd 3: (1 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (24)

Rnd 4: (2 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (32)

Rnd 5: (3 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (40)

Rnd 6: (4 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (48); F/O and cut the yarn


Rnd 1: working with beige yarn, sc in a mr (8)

Rnd 2: sc inc around (16)

Rnd 3: (1 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (24)

Rnd 4: (2 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (32)

Rnd 5: (3 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (40)

Rnd 6: (4 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (48); F/O and leave a long strand of yarn.


Place the two pieces together with the wrong side visible. Use the extra strand of yarn to sew the two parts together.

Cut a very long strand of brown yarn and thread it into a yarn needle.

Embroider little lines on both sides of the cookie to create the chocolate chips.
