Valentine Cupcake Free Crochet Pattern

Let's make the sweetest day of the year even sweeter!


A Valentine Cupcake is the "delicious" and super cute crochet project that I'll be sharing with you all today!


Do you remember my Birthday, Fall and Halloween Cupcakes?


With Valentine's Day approaching fast, I couldn't help but thinking about creating a Valentine version of this popular dessert.

I've had a lot of fun revisiting the past designs, adapting the patterns and adding new fun elements to the new project!

Here's the FREE pattern!


YARN: Light (3) in White and Pink


MATERIALS: 2.5 mm Hook; Yarn Needle


DIMENSION: 3.5” x 5.5” (8 x 12 cm)


ABBREVIATIONS: magic ring (mr), chain (ch), stitch (st), slip stitch (sl st), single crochet (sc), half double crochet (hdc), double crochet (dc), fasten off (F/O)


SKILL LEVEL: Beginner

CUPCAKE (pink yarn)


Rnd 1: 8 sc in a mr (8)

Rnd 2: sc inc around (16)

Rnd 3: (1 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (24)

Rnd 4: (2 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (32)

Rnd 5: (3 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (40)

Rnd 6: (4 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (48)

Rnd 7: (5 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (56)

Rnd 8: sc even (56)

Rnd 9: (6 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (64)

Rnd 10 - 11: sc even (64)

Rnd 12: working in BLO, (6 hdc, 1 hdc dec) rep around (56)

Rnd 13: working in both loops now, sc even (56)

Rnd 14: (5 sc, 1 sc dec) rep around (48)

Rnd 15 - 23: sc even (48); start stuffing the cupcake

Rnd 24: (4 sc, 1 sc dec) rep around (40)

Rnd 25: (3 sc, 1 sc dec) rep around (32)

Rnd 27: (1 sc, 1 sc dec) rep around (16); finish stuffing

F/O, cut the yarn and wave in end.



CUPCAKE LINER (red yarn)


Working in rows (ch1 and turn at the end of each row)

Row 1: 15 ch, 1 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, 13 sc (14); ch 1 and turn

Row 2 - 50: working in BLO, sc even (14); ch 1 and turn

Row 51: working in BLO, sc even (14)


We’ll work now on the long side of the crocheted panel…

Row 52: ch1, starting from the very 1st st, (3 sc, 1 sc dec) rep 10 times, 1 sc (41)


Join with a sl st the last sc of row #52 with the 1st one of the same row, and ch 1


Now it’s time to work in round to create the bottom part of the cupcake liner.

Rnd 1: working in BLO, 39 sc, 1 sc dec (40)

Rnd 2: working in both loops now, (3 sc, 1 sc dec) rep around (32)

Rnd 3: (2 sc, 1 sc dec) rep around (24)

Rnd 4: (1 sc, 1 sc dec) rep around (16)

Rnd 5: sc dec around (8)

F/O, close the hole and cut the yarn.


Cut a long strand of red yarn to sew the open sides of the cupcake liner.




WHIPPED CREAM (white yarn; work in continuous rounds)


Rnd 1: 7 sc in a mr (7)

Rnd 2: hdc inc around (14)

Rnd 3: working in BLO, (1 hdc, 1 hdc inc) rep around (21)

Rnd 4: working in BLO, (2 hdc, 1 hdc inc) rep around (28)

Rnd 5: working in BLO, (3 hdc, 1 hdc inc) rep around (35)

Rnd 6: working in BLO, (4 hdc, 1 hdc inc) rep around (42)

Rnd 7: working in BLO, (5 hdc, 1 hdc inc) rep around (49); F/O


Insert the hook into the 1st front loop of rnd #2 and start crocheting 3 dc into the front loop of each st around with white yarn; F/O and leave a long strand of yarn.



SMALL HEART (red yarn)


Make two:

Rnd 1: 7 sc in a mr (7)

Rnd 2: sc inc around (14)

Rnd 3: sc even (14); F/O


Do not F/O when you finish the second part.


Merge the two parts together:

Rnd 4: with the loop still on your hook, insert the hook into the 1st stitch of the last rnd of part #1; work (5 sc, 1 sc dec) rep twice, then go back at working on part #2, inserting the hook into the 1st stitch of the last rnd, then work (5 sc, 1 sc dec) rep twice (24)

Rnd 5: (4 sc, 1 sc dec) rep 4 times (20)

Rnd 6: (8 sc, 1 sc dec) rep twice (18)

Rnd 7: (7 sc, 1 sc dec) rep twice (16)

Rnd 8: (2 sc, 1 sc dec) rep 4 times (12); stuff the heart

Rnd 9: sc dec around (6); F/O and leave a log strand of yarn to attach the heart to the whipped cream.



BIG HEART (red yarn)


Make two:

Rnd 1: 6 sc in a mr (6)

Rnd 2: sc inc around (12)

Rnd: (2 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (16)

Rnd 4: sc even (16); F/O

Do not F/O when you finish the second part.


Merge the two parts together:

Rnd 5: with the loop still on your hook, insert the hook into the 1st stitch of the last rnd of part # 1; work (6 sc, 1 sc dec) rep twice, then go back at working on part #2 inserting the hook into the 1st stitch of the last rnd, then work (6 sc, 1 sc dec) rep twice (28)

Rnd 6: (5 sc, 1 sc dec) rep 4 times (24)

Rnd 7: (4 sc, 1 sc dec) rep 4 times (20)

Rnd 8: (3 sc, 1 sc dec) rep 4 times (16)

Rnd 9: (2 sc, 1 sc dec) rep 4 times (12); stuff the heart

Rnd 10: (1 sc, 1 sc dec) rep 4 times (8)

Rnd 11: (2 sc, 1 sc dec) rep twice (6); F/O and leave a log strand of yarn to attach the heart to the whipped cream.


Use the extra strands of yarn to secure the hearts on top of the whipped cream.


Pin the whipped cream down to the top of the cupcake to secure it in place

Then use the extra strand of white yarn to sew the sts of rnd #6 to the cupcake.
