Time to keep building! In part II of this free crochet pattern, we’ll be adding more pieces to bring our dinosaur friend to life. If you’ve been following along, you should already have the three rings done — now, let’s stack on the fun!!

YARN

Premier Yarn® Anti Pilling - Everyday Bulky (Art. #1068)

#20 Lapis 2 balls (A)

#06 Gold 1 ball (B)

#24 Rust 1 ball (C)

MATERIALS

Crochet hook size H (5 mm)

White embroidery thread

Sew on Safety Eyes (9 mm)

Embroidery Needle

Poly Filling

About 8 in. x 8 in. (20 x 20 cm)

ABBREVIATIONS

ch = chain

rep = repeat

rnd(s) = round(s)

Work in Close Rounds: join at the end of each round with a sl st, then ch 1.

Tail

With B, make a magic ring.

Rnd 1: 6 sc in magic ring – 6 sc.

Rnd 2: Sc in next 5 sts, 2 sc in next st – 7 sc.

Rnd 3: Sc in next 6 sts, 2 sc in next st – 8 sc.

Rnd 4:  sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st; rep from twice – 10 sc.

Rnd 5: Sc in each st around – 10 sc.

Rnd 6:  sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st; rep from twice – 12 sc.

Rnds 7 - 9: Sc in each st around – 12 sc.

Fasten off, leaving a long strand of yarn for sewing the Tail to Ring III. Stuff the Tail while sewing.

Head

With A.

Rnd 1: Ch 8, 2 sc in 2nd ch from the hook, sc in next 5 chs, 4 sc in next ch; keep working on the opposite side of the foundation ch, sc in next 5 chs, 2 sc in last ch – 18 sc.

Rnd 2: 2 sc in 1st st, sc in next 7 sts, 2 sc in next 2 sts, sc in next 7 sts, 2 sc in last st – 22 sc.

Rnd 3: 2 sc in next 2 sts, sc in next 7 sts, 2 sc in next 4 sts, sc in next 7 sts, 2 sc in last 2 sts – 30 sc.

Rnd 4:  sc in next st, 2 sc in next st; rep from twice, sc in next 7 sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in next st; rep from twice, sc in next st, 2 sc in next st; rep from twice, sc in next 7 sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in next st; rep from twice – 38 sc.

Rnds 5 - 8: Sc in each st around – 38 sc.

Rnd 9:  sc in next st, sc2tog; rep from twice, sc in next 7 sts, sc2tog, sc in next st; rep from twice, sc in next st, sc2tog; rep from twice, sc in next 7 sts, sc2tog, sc in next st; rep from twice – 30 sc.

Rnd 10: working in back loop only, sc in next 11 sts, working in both loops now, sc in next 8 sts, working in back loop only, sc in next 11 sts – 30 sc.

Rnd 11: working in both loops now, sc in next st, sc2tog; rep from around – 20 sc.

Rnd 12: sc2tog around – 10 sc.

Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Stuff the Head. Thread tail through top of sts of last rnd. Pull tail to close opening and knot securely.

Sew Rnd 9 of the Head to Ring I. Make sure the side where you worked the 8 stitches on both loops is sticking out from the ring – that side will be the front of the Head.

Sew Eyes to side of Head between rnds 5 and 6.

With A, embroider straight lines above the Eye for Eyelids.

With white thread, embroider line below the Eye for white of Eye.

Nostrils

With A.

Rnd 1: Leave a long strand at the beginning of the work, ch 3 – 3 chs.

Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Use both ends to sew the chains to the front of the Head, between Rnds 4 and 6.

Crest (make 8)

With B, make a magic ring.

Rnd 1: Work 2 sc, 2 hdc, 2 sc in the magic ring; close the ring, but do not close the rnd – 6 sts.

Fasten off, leaving a long strand of yarn. Sew 4 piece onto the Head, 1 piece onto Ring I, 1 piece onto Ring II, 1 piece onto Ring III, 2 pieces onto the Tail.

With white thread, embroider the Mouth between Rnds 8 and 9.
