Kyle the Parrot Free Crochet Pattern



Hi my fellow crafters!


Crocheting is a beautiful and fun way to keep both our mind and hands busy in these difficult and uncertain times.


...and when we are urged to stay home, and travels and vacations seems so far away, why not flying with our imagination?


Today I'll be sharing a super easy pattern to create a cute little PARROT!

SKILL LEVEL: Beginner

YARN: Medium Weight Cotton Yarn (Lace 4) in Green, Yellow, Red and Black

OTHER MATERIALS: Polyester Fiber Filling; Two 12mm Black Plastic Safety Eyes; White Felt

HOOK SIZES: E/3,25 mm

DIMENSIONS: 4” x 4.5”

STITCHES USED and ABBREVIATIONS: magic ring (mr), chain (ch), slip stitch (sl st), single crochet (sc), back loop only (BLO), decrease (dec), increase (inc), fasten off (F/O).

INSTRUCTIONS: work in rounds (join with a sl st and ch1 at the end of each round) unless otherwise instructed.

BODY (green yarn)

1) 6 sc in a mr (6)

2) sc inc around (12)

3) *1 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** around (18)

4) *2 sc, 1 sc inc *, repeat ** around (24)

5) *3 sc, 1 sc inc *, repeat ** around (30)

6) sc even (30)

7) *4 sc, 1 sc inc *, repeat ** around (36)

8) sc even (36)

9) *5 sc, 1 sc inc *, repeat ** around (42)

10-25) sc even (42)

Cut two 6/8” rounded pieces of white felt, create a hole in them whit your scissors, insert the plastic safety eyes in the hole and then place them between rounds #8-9, 9 stitches apart. Secure the eyes with the back parts.

26) *5 sc, 1 sc dec *, repeat ** around (36); start stuffing the body

27) sc even (36)

28) working in BLO, *4 sc, 1 sc dec *, repeat ** around (30)

29) working on both loops now, *3 sc, 1 sc dec *, repeat ** around (24)

30) *2 sc, 1 sc dec *, repeat ** around (18)

31) *1 sc, 1 sc dec *, repeat ** around (12); finish stuffing the body

32) sc dec around (6); F/O, close the hole and hide the yarn

BEAK (yellow and red yarn)

1) starting off with yellow yarn, 4 sc in a mr (4)

2) *1 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** twice (6)

3) *1 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** around (9)

4) 3 sc inc, 2 sc dec, 2 sc inc (12)

5) 2 sc inc, 2 sc, 2 sc dec, 2 sc, 2 sc inc (14)

6) 6 sc, 2 sc inc, 6 sc (16)

7) sc even (16)

8) *1 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** around (12)

9) sc even (12); stuff the beak

10) switch to red yarn, flatten the beak and crochet through both layers now, 6 sc (6); F/O and leave a long tail of yarn to sew the beak in between the eyes, around rnds #6-7. Using yarn needle and yellow yarn, secure the sides of the beak (rnds #7-9) to the body.

WINGS (green yarn; make two)

1) 6 sc in a mr (6)

2) *2 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** twice (8)

3) sc even (8)

4) *3 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** twice (10)

5) *4 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** twice (12)

6) *5 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** twice (14)

7-13) sc even (14)

14) *5 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** twice (12)

15) flatten the wing and crochet through both layers now, 6 sc (6); F/O and cut the yarn.

Attach the wings to the side of the body between rnds #12-13.

TAIL FEATHERS (green yarn)

Make two:

1) 6 sc in a mr (6)

2) sc even (6)

3) *2 sc, 1 sc inc*, repeat ** twice (8)

4-7) sc even (8)

Do not cut the yarn once you have completed the 2nd feather

Merge the two feathers together:

8) join the yarn with a sl st to the 1st feather, ch1 and sc in the same st, 1 sc, 1 sc dec, 2 sc, 1 sc dec, keep working on the 2nd feather, *2 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** twice (12)

9) *1 sc, 1 sc dec*, repeat ** around (8); F/O and cut the yarn.

Attach the tail to the back of the body between rnds #25-27.
